What is in your teacher wallet?

What’s in your teacher wallet?

by Deborah Stewart, M.Ed.

If you are like me, then you see so many things that you want to buy for your classroom. However, when I open my teacher wallet, I wonder “where did all the money go?”

I only took a couple of trips to the Dollar Store, then dropped by the Target Dollar Spot real quick, maybe ordered a few things on Amazon, and…Oh, and now that I think about it, I did hide a couple of “small” shopping bags from the school supply store in the floor of the backseat of my car hoping my hubby wouldn’t notice them.

I would tell you that buying all the cute things you see online or at the dollar spot is going to make your classroom amazing this year.

I would tell you that buying all the cute things you see online or at the dollar spot is going to make your classroom amazing this year.I would tell you that if your classroom doesn’t look as cool as the classroom you saw on Pinterest then your students might not be able to learn and develop critical skills. But I would NEVER tell you that. The reality is, an amazing classroom isn’t measured by the things you buy or how cute your room is.

An amazing classroom isn’t measured by how much is in your teacher wallet because you can’t buy your way to classroom success.

An amazing classroom isn’t measured by how much is in your teacher wallet because you can’t buy your way to classroom success. You don’t need a big wallet (or budget) to make your classroom amazing. All you really need to create a deep and meaningful classroom experience for you and your students is an amazing you. Now, I wonder where my sales receipts are to some of this stuff? Maybe I can return these bags before my hubby finds out.

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
