Fun ways to explore farm life in your preschool classroom!
Throughout the week, children spent time learning all about the farm through a variety of hands-on experiences.
Shape Tractors
They explored a variety of activities including how to create the form of a tractor out of shapes.
Sensory Exploration
For sensory, the children were invited to drive tractors in (and around) the dirt. You could also add farm animals to enhance the experience!
Farm Science
The children discovered the feel and shape of lima beans. The children then added water to their lima beans and let them sit overnight to see what would happen next. Â The next day, the beans absorbed the seeds and expanded.
The children tried to predict what they thought would happen and many of them predicted the beans would get smaller. They enjoyed watching the changes that occurred over time.
Farm Inspired Art Experiences
Some of the children explored haystacks during art. The children sprinkled glue and shredded wheat on a hay bale print out.
Exploring Farm Life with Cooking
The children enjoyed making butter from whipping cream. They poured whipping cream in a jar and shook it throughout the morning. After the butter was formed, they poured off the extra milk. Then the butter was refrigerated and later the children put a little of their home made butter on crackers to taste. Children often love to try new foods when they have made it themselves, so be sure to give cooking experiences like this a try in your classroom!
