The fall season is here and that means two words… Apple Pie!
This day has by far been my favorite day in the preschool classroom. Last week the whole school took a trip to the apple orchard and had the incredible opportunity to learn about apples. We followed up our trip by reading “The Apple Pie Tree” by Zoe Hall and making our very own apple pies. Our morning started out by making the filling from scratch.
The children helped to core the apples, chop them up, and mix all of the ingredients into the bowl for our filling.
Here is the recipe…
- 6 medium (Honeycrisp) apples
- 1 cup of dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon of salt
Just add all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and viola, you have a delicious apple pie filling!
Obviously the best part of the whole day was getting to eat our pie, which genuinely was so delicious! The students loved being able to enjoy their creation and throughout our snack time they talked about how they made the pie all by themselves.
