Take a look and you will see that we had an Fffffffffffff is for fish painting table all set up and ready to go…
We started our morning by reading the book, “Blue Sea” by Robert Kalan which is a very simple to read book with bright and beautiful illustrations by Donald Crews…
“Blue Sea” is a book that begins with a little fish who is quickly being followed by a big fish, then a bigger fish, then the biggest fish! Soon, each of the fish must find a way to escape from the biggest fish. Most of the story is told through the illustrations which, along with the simple words, open the door for discussion on the words little to biggest, the comparison of sizes, and of course the beautiful colors of fish that are shown throughout the book…
To follow up the reading of our book, the children were invited to create their own little to biggest fish paintings. They began by painting their entire sheet of paper blue (or most of it)…
Next, the children sponge painted fish on their blue water…
Because the book shows the fish from little to biggest, many of the children painted their fish in order from small to biggest…
And others chose to paint their fish randomly all over their blue water…
We used Colorations Liquid Watercolor for the blue water (which washes easily off hands and tables) Keep in mind that a very small amount of liquid watercolor goes a long way. But you could use regular blue liquid tempera paint and water it down just a bit and that should work just fine too…
And we chose bright colors of Biocolor Paint for the fish so they would be brightly colored like the fish in our book. But again, you could use regular liquid tempera paint for the fish…
A super simple and fun process!
