Cooking in the classroom can be challenging, but it can also be fun! Â Our children love any opportunity to take part in preparing their own snack. Â So it was no surprise that our pre-k students were so eager to make their own banana pudding cups for snack. Â They would like to share with you how they made their own snack in preschool today…
First we opened a box of instant pudding and dumped it into a large bowl. Â We used banana cream pudding, but there are many other flavors that would be just as delicious…
Then we added our milk. Â Mrs. Stewart helped us out by pouring the milk into a smaller pitcher so that it is easier for us to pour it into the measuring cup…
Next, it was time to mix it all up. Â We took turns stirring so that everyone got a chance. Â All the extra stirring really helped to get all the lumps out because no one likes lumpy pudding…
While some of us stirred, we asked questions like “When will it be my turn?” and used sentences like “Don’t worry, everyone will get a turn.” Â Mrs. Stewart reminded us to also use words like, “measurement, cup, pour, stir, whisk, and recipe.”…
Mrs. Stewart had some bananas for us to slice too. Â But first we had to peel them…
Once our bananas were peeled, we could slice them up with our very own plastic knives. Â These knives aren’t real sharp like a metal knife, but we know that we are still supposed to use them safely…
After they were all sliced up, we added the bananas to the bottom of the cup and the pudding was almost all set! By now we were getting so hungry!
And then we took turns pouring our pudding into the the cups. Â It helped that Mrs. Stewart had the pudding in a nice measuring cup for us. Â That sure made it a lot easier to pour…
A good banana pudding just wouldn’t be complete without some vanilla wafers. Â We each added a few cookies to our cups of pudding and then it was time to wait for the pudding to set up. Â We didn’t even have to put our pudding in the refrigerator. Instead, we covered it with plastic wrap and set it out into the snow. The waiting is the hardest part when it comes to making snacks…
And then it was time to enjoy the fruits, or should we say puddings, of our labor. Â It was delicious! Â And all the more sweet because we had the chance to make it ourselves…
