Chalk paint is so simple to make and because it includes a little bit of chalk pounding, the process of making chalk paint is quite fun too…
I have tried making chalk paint before but found that crushing the chalk was a bit of a challenge. This time, we used Crayola brand sidewalk chalk and it was much easier to crush. My grandson and I placed the chalk in baggies and set the baggies on the floor. Then we used our shoes to stomp on the chalk to crush it up…
Once the chalk was all crushed up (or as crushed as we could get it with our shoes) I poured the crushed chalk into paper cups filled with a little bit of water. Too much water made our chalk paint too watery so we emptied much of our water out of the cups and then poured our chalk into smaller amounts of water and mixed it up until it seemed a good consistency for painting…
Then we took the chalk paint outside to give it a try on the driveway…
My grandson preferred dumping the paint out of the cups while I preferred painting with the paint brushes…
While my grandson dumped the paint out of the cups, I painted “X”s around the drive way for my grandson to find and step on…
We both loved exploring the chalk paint but definitely in our own way…
And after spilling, pouring, drawing, and driving through the chalk paint – I threw the cups and baggies in the trash and rinsed out the brushes. The rain came along a few days later and washed chalk paint off our driveway saving me from having to do any other cleanup…
