First Times: 21 days of gratitude

This post is a little different than my usual classroom posts but I hope you will take a minute to read it to the end because it is both a little personal as well as meant to encourage you…

I am a relatively new grandmom to two of the sweetest little boys you could ever, ever get the chance to know…

As I watch my grandsons go about their daily activities with their mommy and daddy, I am constantly aware and in awe of how  everyday experiences are not just ordinary but instead, they are extraordinary and often experiences that they will be enjoying for the very first time…

I am grateful because I live close by my grandchildren and often get the chance to watch both my grandsons as they explore their world for the first time…

While with my grandsons, I am constantly aware of how precious each moment is as they explore their way through the early childhood years and beyond…

I believe that being a grandparent is also making me a better teacher. I look at my students and realize that they too are experiencing many firsts in their life – right here in my classroom.  Whether this is their first time in preschool or the first time using a glue bottle or the first time cutting with scissors or the first time playing a silly frog game, I am grateful for the opportunity to share in the first time experiences of my students too…

I am grateful for all of the first that are in my life right now.  The young children in our families or in our care are so precious. Let me encourage you to notice and appreciate the many “firsts” of the children in your care and with every first you share in, whether it be big or small, be grateful that you get to take part in such an important season of life…

Continue to be Encouraged!

This post is Day 2 of the “21 Days of Gratitude – A Challenge for the Whole Family.”

Head on over to the Inspired by Family Magazine blog and be inspired by the wonderful bloggers who are sharing an inspiring collection of 21 days of being thankful posts.

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
