Weaving up a little sunshine and a blog hop

The sun has been peeking out out just a bit and since we have been exploring the weather all week, we tried a little sunshine weaving…

For the younger children, I precut some sunshine shapes out of chip board – a light weight but sturdy cardboard. The cardboard was donated to me and it is perfect for so many different kinds of activities…

Miss Abby and I poked holes in the center of each sunshine and tied a length of yellow yarn through the hole to get the children started on their weaving…

The children started with yellow yarn and then we added a length of orange yarn to give our sunshines a little more color…

The children were invited to add as much yellow and orange yarn as they would like. The children wrapped the yarn all around the sunshines…

It is hard to know how much yarn to start off with – so we just kept adding lengths of yarn as we went along so it didn’t get tangled up. The children did a terrific job at managing the weaving process and adding more yarn….

Each child added his or her own name to the sunshines at some point during the process so they could take them home at the end of the day…

I am hoping that a little sunshine weaving with bring some more sunshine here to stay!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
