Exploring penguins in preschool

I received our first set of Clifford the Dog Scholastic Classroom Magazines just in time to help us explore penguins…

Today’s magazine was all about penguins and as we read this issue, we discovered that we have lots in common with penguins. Penguins eat fish, walk in lines, jump and slide in the snow, huddle close together to keep warm, and take naps…

After reading our magazine, we did a little penguin role play!  We walked (waddled) in a line like penguins do…

I don’t use much in terms of “formal curriculum” in my classroom but I do like using these simple classroom magazines. They bring in lots of information that I most likely wouldn’t have otherwise known or had the photos to share. I love the wonderful pictures and simple words and the open-ended ways the magazines can be used…

A big shout out to Scholastics for sending me these fun new magazines to check out and use in my classroom!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'

My favorite curriculum supplement for preschool
