Creative Challenge: Holiday magazine puzzles

Today, I am joining my friend over at Tinkerlab and others for the Creative Challenge: Magazines!

Tinkerlab Creative Challenge

Today’s challenge was to do something creative with magazines.  To combine this challenge with the spirit of the holidays, I decided I could make some holiday puzzles for my class….

To make the puzzles, I pulled out pages from a recent issue of Family Fun magazine.  The photos in this magazine are big, bright, and there are lots of fun photos that are perfect for young children to explore. Plus the creative ideas you can find in this magazine are awesome too!….

I selected lots of photos from the magazine to tear out, trim up, and glue to sheets of red construction paper…

I laminated my puzzles so I could keep them for next year too.  I didn’t realize how many photos I had cut out until I had them all spread out on the table…

Once I had all my puzzle pieces ready to go, I flipped them over and numbered each set so they would be easier to keep organized.  I spread them out on the table for the children to flip over and discover what beautiful photo is on each puzzle…

I think I will set out some more magazines now and let the children make some of their own puzzles to take home.  I didn’t think of this until after I made my own set!

Hint: One thing I learned while making these is if you decide to laminate them, it might be better to cut the puzzle pieces apart first so the laminating paper sticks to all the edges. I had to use clear packing tape to seal up some of my edges after I cut the pages into puzzle pieces.

Check out all the creative ideas you can do with magazines from these folks or see the linky below!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
