We provided fire station activity boxes for our continuing study of community helpers. I shared the idea of making our own fire stations from a post I read at No Time for Flashcards…
Along with the fire stations we set out some fire trucks and then added some waffle blocks to extend the play a little more….
The children liked having all the garage door openings to drive through and they made lots of “whirring siren” sounds as they played…
At first only the little boys played with the fire station but it didn’t take long for the girls to decide this looked like fun too…
The children started off with a road that went around the station but then worked together to create an entire platform for the station to sit on…
The children played for a long time with the fire station and most of the play was focused on driving in and out of the fire station doors.
No need to only use the little fire stations when you can use the big blocks to build a real fire station….
This fire station has tall walls…
And some expert structural engineers!
The activity boxes are a wonderful way to introduce concepts that can be extended into all areas of the classroom!
