Preschoolers like driving through a snow storm

I didn’t really have a plan for this activity and it isn’t something that will probably get hung up on the refrigerator but Wy had a terrific time with it…

I set out a sheet of black construction paper and put a few dots of white paint on the paper. I told Wy that we were going to make a snow painting. Off to the side was a paint brush and Wy immediately picked it up and started dabbing at the paint…

Then Wy even tried a little finger painting on the paper which surprised me because Wy usually doesn’t care to get paint on his hands. But he kept at it this time…

But after a few minutes, this process just didn’t seem that exciting so I invited Wy to try driving some of his cars through our snow painting…

Now Wy was hooked. He chose one car – drove it through the paint, then went and chose another car to drive through the paint…

He repeated this process until he had driven every car through the paint at least once and sometimes more than once…

Wy also kept moving around the table to paint from different directions which I thought was kind of interesting…

And then he realized that if he drove off of the paper, that the cars would leave tracks on the red plastic table cloth we were using…

So the activity migrated off the black construction paper and onto the plastic table cloth…

I let Wy just go at it until he suddenly decided to run over to my black leather couch and roll the painted car on the couch:) Yep – it was time to call it a night! But it was fun while it lasted. So Wy helped me gather up all the cars and toss them into the kitchen sink. He loves to throw just about anything into the kitchen sink!

See this wonderful painting and “let your child lead you!”

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
