We made more lions in preschool

This class has also been exploring the letter L and they made lions too! The teacher started out by showing the children how to draw a lion face…

Then the children began drawing their own lion faces on orange construction paper circles…

I am a huge advocate for modeling drawing and writing skills for children then letting them try to draw on their own. Here were a few of the lion faces they came up with…

Once the children had their lion faces completed, then they began brushing glue on their orange paper for the lion’s mane…

Then the children began gluing on paper strips – the kind you use for party bags. We are in the process of using up a lot of our extra art materials and we had a bag of this paper left over that seemed like a great material for a lion’s mane.

Some of the children chose to tear the strips into smaller pieces and other children just piled their strips on the lion face in any old way:)

The lions didn’t quite turn out as expected but the children still enjoyed the process…

Even though there were plenty of other things in the classroom for the children to do – the majority of the children preferred to stand around the table and watch the action until they would get a turn. These children love to be together and work together!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
