Simple idea for mixing paint colors in preschool

This simple color mixing idea came from ABC’s of Jess’s House and I thought it was so cute that I shared it with our teachers and we gave it a try!

To start out, gather some plastic zip-lock baggies and two colors of paint you want your children to mix up!

Use a permanent marker to draw a shape on the baggie. We went with pumpkins but you could try turkeys, leaves, or really just about any shape that works for you will do! Then we placed a spoonful of each color in our bags…

Next, close the baggy securely and let the child begin to mix.  We had all kind of mixing going on!  Some of the children used their hands to push the paint around…

Others liked using their fingers to draw on the baggies and slowly blend the paint colors together…

And then we had those who just wanted to scrunch it all up and really get the colors good and mixed up…

I thought for sure that baggie would pop and paint would go flying but it didn’t! No matter which way they mixed the paint, we encouraged them to finish by laying the baggie flat on the table, smoothing it out, and seeing what new color their pumpkin turned out to be!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
