We made corn on the cob in preschool

One of the best parts of going to the Indiana State Fair is a tasty piece of corn on the cob.

For this activity, the teachers set out some corn, yellow and green construction paper, and glue.

The children glued their construction paper leaves and corncobs to the large sheet of blue construction paper…

Then the children glued the corn seeds onto their yellow corncob.

I love how the leaves are all going in a different direction…

In the classroom next door, the children were having a sensory experience as they sprinkled corn seeds on a large sheet of paper covered with glue…

The children rolled the corn in their hands…

And used their fine motor skills to pinch the corn up off the table.

After the children covered all the glue with the corn…

The corn was set aside so the glue could dry.

The corn covered paper was then rolled up by the teacher and stapled closed to create a piece of corn for the school wide State Fair Food craft contest!

See how these children are shucking some real corn!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
